Description
Please be sure to read all of the auction details before registering. We have a fantastic September Auction filled with hundreds of beautiful and historic items from the private collection of Marajen Stevick-Chinigo, the Stevick Family, and the Champaign News-Gazette! Marajen Stevick-Chinigo was the glamourous and eccentric owner of the Champaign News-Gazette, known for her larger than life personality and social gatherings. Aside from carrying on the Stevick family ownership of the newspaper, she traveled the world extensively and conversed with celebrities at her Italian villa and California home. This private collection includes art, statuary, vintage cameras, jewelry, and many other historic pieces from Champaign County history and beyond. The majority of the artwork and statuary is from Mrs. Stevick-Chiningo's personal collection, which was previously kept on display at the News-Gazette Headquarters in downtown Champaign, Illinois. This collection has been consigned to us by the folks at the Champaign County History Museum who purchased this collection from the News-Gazette prior to the sale of the downtown headquarters. The items in this auction are those remaining after the museum completed their review of the entire collection. Proceeds from lot #1 through lot #194 will directly benefit the museum's efforts in preserving the majority of Mrs. Stevick-Chinigo's collection and support the museum's mission of preserving Champaign County history. Lots 195 and beyond have been consigned from other collections. The sale begins with some great Chicago Bears lithographs, followed by collectibles found at the News-Gazette, and many art prints. The cast-iron Art Nouveau sculpture, which used to be on display in the lobby at the News-Gazette, is certainly a highlight of this auction. We also really like the vintage wooden carousel horse, the conquistador sculpture, the signed marble geisha sculptures, and the large paper boy on bicycle metal sculpture. If you are into Italian landscapes, you won't want to miss the collection of 20 original gouache paintings. There are also some very nice original oil paintings, including a large Andre Vignoles French still life. Next is an impressive collection of vintage and antique cameras. One of the most rare pieces is the pink Kodak Beau Brownie box camera with the original case, which is sure to be a popular item. Also included are advertising pieces from Keen Kutter, Chicago Motor Club, John Deere, and other brands. Last, but certainly not least, is a nice collection of jewelry including gold, silver, diamonds, and tanzanite. Items are consigned by the Champaign History Museum, Don Black, and others. Good luck, and happy bidding!

Any items that do not have this text and marking are not available for shipping, or the buyer must arrange their own 3rd Party for shipping. The buyer will be charged actual shipping cost plus any necessary parcel insurance and a Handling fee. Handling fees are at the discretion of the Auctioneer, and these fees are calculated as a combination of the time it takes the shipper to process a shipping order and the quantity and/or type of materials used in packaging. Small and simple packages that take 10 minutes or less to pack and ship are charged $5 in Handling fees. Any package that takes over 10 minutes to pack and ship will be charged a minimum of a $10 Handling fee, and the Auctioneer will charge an additional $10 in Handling fees for every additional15 minutes required to pack and ship an order. Large packages and any packages with more than 4 items will also have at least an additional $5 Handling fee for materials.
